Things are gettin’ a little hectic here at The Caboose, as I’m preparing to pull up stakes and move to the other side of town. But there’s still time in my sked to tell y’all what’s coming up this week and on future shows…so here goes:
Boss Radio (Friday 4-6 pm) will consist of Forty more Fabulous sides from the fifties, sixties und seventies. It will be overwhelming as usual. Speaking of overwhelming, best o’ luck and welcome back to Paul Revere who’ll be returning this week with Revere’s Records. Go get ’em, old son!
This week’s edition of The Prairie Lily Special (Saturday 6-8 pm) presents part two of The Bookender Artist Spotlight featuring LA Western Swing dynamo Ole Rasmussen. Performers whose rekkids will be featured on The Bookender in coming weeks include:
October 3rd – Jimmy (Lee Fautheree) and (Country) Johnny (Mathis)
The very best of their Chess Records sides from their short partnership together.
October 10th & 17th – The Way-Out Country of Shelby Singleton’s Plantation and SSS Labels
Some of the most iconoclastic and bizarre Country Music on record was unleashed (by the man who would eventually own Sun Records) from 1967 to 1976. Prepare to be amazed!
October 24th & 31st – Johnny Paycheck: The Little Darlin’ Years Revisited
The Conductor has made a new acquisition of more recordings that the late, great Mr. Paycheck made in the late 1960’s for Aubrey Mayhew’s label and these sides are just as honest, painful and scary as the many recordings J.P. made you’ve already heard on the show. It’s only fitting that part two falls on Halloween night!
November 7th & 14th – The Sonic Boogie-Woogie of Merrill E. Moore
Those of you who love the genius of Moon Mulligan and Roy Hall ticklin’ the ivories ain’t heard nuthin’ ’till you catch a listen to this legendary piano pounder who called San Diego his home base until his death in 2000.
Please note Friday Freedom Riders: there will be NO Boss Radio on Friday, October 2nd as 91.3 FM CJTR presents it’s annual launch program for Radiothon from four to six that day. Please give generously to Radiothon 2009, would ya’?
‘Later Friday Freedom Riders and Pards’ Of All Ages!
