Happy New Year Everybody! Yer’ Friendly Neighbourhood Conductor hopes that you’all had a great Christmastime and will celebrate the coming of the new year in style BUT responsibly… DON’T BE TAKIN’ NO CHANCES, ALRIGHT?! You know what I’m talkin’ about…
The first edition for The Prairie Lily Special (Saturday 6-8 pm) for 2010 (and the beginning of it’s ninth season) will feature The Statler Brothers during The Bookender Spotlight this and next week’s show January 9th. One of the greatest vocal groups in Country Music history, The Statlers’ started their recording careers’ back in the mid-sixties’, waxing for Columbia Records while benefiting from the friendship and patronage of Johnny Cash, for whom they were a fixture with his traveling revue for many years. But it wasn’t until they left Columbia and moved over to Mercury Records in the early seventies’ that they enjoyed their greatest success. I’ll try to address the fine legacy of this criminally overlooked group over the next two weeks.
If you were listening to TPLS last week, you already know that the late, great Buck Owens and His Buckaroos will be the Tribute Artists In Residence for the show in 2010. Buck’s incredible body of work will be explored one song per week during the coming year, mixing in album cuts with his endless list of chart toppers and early curiosities, so stay tuned after The Bookender on every show to hear this true legend on TPLS, where the Buck truly starts and ends, with much more great Country Music to come…always!
Just a reminder…NO Boss Radio again until Friday, January 8th.
