the prairie lily special’s thirteenth season: a thumbnail sketch…

Sorry ’bout not posting a detailed lineup earlier of what’s coming up on The Bookender Spotlight for the first programs of The Prairie Lily Special’s (Saturdays 6 to 8pm) thirteenth season in 2014. Due to some annoying problems with a few compact discs, I’ve had to redo my original schedule. This is how it looks now and it is subject to change should things go haywire again, but I’ll try to let all of youse’ know in advance if changes are a comin’.

January 25th – Bobby Bare sings Lullabys, Legends and Lies REVISITED

The album that redefined his place within the genre that honored him with induction into it’s own Hall of Fame last year gets a closer look, along with other songs written by the late Shel Silverstein, who was asked by Bare to write the songs for the album. Recordings of Silverstein songs by Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash and others receive scrutiny as well.

Hear seven half-hour transcribed radio programs, highlighted by an interview with longtime Dallas musician/engineer/historian David Dennard, who painstakingly researched, uncovered and acquired recordings, promotional materials and all manner of artifacts related to Big Ed McLemore’s radio hoedown.
