Have no idea what we’re talking about? Great! Then this is the funspiel for you!
We’re excited to co-host the first ever Common Weal Community Arts Charity Curling Funspiel—the Sweeper’s Cup—at the Callie Curling Club in Regina on February 25, 2023. This is a semi-family-friendly event (the curling is all-ages, the wind-up party after curling will be 19+) that takes place at Regina’s landmark curling establishment, the Callie Curling Club. If you enjoy pebbled ice, yelling/hollering, low-scoring games, then please join us as we work to support artists and communities in Saskatchewan!
Join us on the ice with your best (or worst) curling attire, borrow your grandpa’s old broom (to use as a prop—rinks don’t typically allow straw brooms anymore as they mess up the ice!), and get ready for an evening of pure fun in support of socially engaged arts! “On-ice” entertainment courtesy of DJ Hayley Leier, host of the hit radio program Dodecahedron on 91.3FM CJTR Regina Community Radio, (Dodecahedron airs at 9:00pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays).
The event will conclude with a wind-up party in the lounge, featuring music from the one & only Erroll Kinistino & the Dog River Band. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase!
There will also be a very official awards ceremony. Awards and prizes will be presented for winners in the following categories:
First Place Team
Best Dressed Team
Best Team Name
#1 Sweeper
Acceptance speeches are entirely optional, but highly encouraged.
Proceeds from this event will directly support discretionary arts programs that respond to community need in Saskatchewan.
