Girls Rock Regina
The Plain A.I.R. (January 2019) artist-in-residence is the non-profit organization, Girls Rock Regina (GRR). At Girls Rock Regina, self-identified girls and non-binary youth learn an instrument, form a band, write an original song, and perform a concert at a live music venue. This series is produced by GRR organizing crew member Dr. Charity Marsh, Canada Research Chair in Interactive Media and Popular Music in the Faculty of Media, Arts and Performance at the University of Regina. Her research and publications focus on women in popular music, global Indigenous hip hop, electronic music, gender and technology, as well as movement arts cultures. She’s also the Director of the Interactive Media and Performance (IMP) Labs at the U of R and mama to two fantastic girls who love to rock out to Peaches.
About Girls Rock Regina:
Girls Rock Regina (GRR) is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to the empowerment of female, trans, two-spirit, and non-binary youth and adults through collaborative music creation and performance.
At GRR, you’ll learn an instrument, form a band, write and record an original song, and perform at a live music venue. In addition to technical training, you’ll take part in a number of music and non-music workshops centered on creativity and confidence-building, such as songwriting, image & identity, self defense, zine-making and more. No musical experience required!
We value diversity and strive to be as inclusive as possible. Camps usually have a very low tuition, sliding scale and/or provide financial aid, and value female mentorship and leadership.
