Plain A.I.R. (September 2021): The Unusual Music Exchange
Join us every Saturday in September at 3 PM on 91.3fm CJTR, Regina Community Radio for The Unusual Music Exchange. In partnership with the Dunlop Art Gallery (Regina) and YYZ Artist Outlet (Toronto,) Glasgow-based artist Josh Thorpe will present a series of shows designed to slow down and attend to unusual music of diverse types. We will listen to strange sounds and talk about the things that are difficult to talk about in experimental music. For example, the subtle and nuanced detail of the character of sound, the meaning of it, its affect, its force, its impact on us, what it calls to mind, the interaction of elements, how it is made… Also, we are interested in experimental music as a political or ethical place to visit, as a psychological space, what is it to be involved in something ‘unpopular’ like this.
Over the four sessions, Josh will be in conversation with the following individuals
Sept 4 – Martin Arnold
Sept 11 – Renee Lear
Sept 18 – Martin Arnold and Jaye Kovach
Sept 25 – Raven Chacon and John Dieterich
There is also a Launch event and performance at 7:30 P.M. on September 4th at T+A Vintage in Regina. This event will also be live streamed on The Dunlop Art Gallery’s Facebook and YouTube pages. See Event listing for more details.
