Counter / Juxta With Joel Blechinger
As our relation to music becomes increasingly vibe-curated – oriented, as it is, around algorithmic passive listening and surveilled on the major commercial streaming platforms – one of the vital forms of agency that we have at our disposal as music listeners and appreciators becomes our ability to find unlikely connections between and across seemingly disparate forms of musical expression. This open music program envisions the act of musical counter or juxtaposition as a form of active listening that foregrounds the human in the musical equation in a distinctly antihuman sociotechnical moment. (Preference is given to new releases, though this is not a hard and fast rule.)
